Eric’s Animé Pick

This time around is the opening to Azumanga Daioh, along with a couple of gags.  Azumanga Daioh is so totally nonsensical it defies description.  Originally a 4-panel comic strip, it was then turned into a daily 5-minute Animé for TV.

Since this video preview is already wacky, for contrast I’ll tack on a single-gag cartoon done of the 4-panel comic strip Peanuts, way back in 1963.  This was some of the first animation produced to test Charlie Brown and the gang for television.

  1. I must correct myself for saying 1963 had some of the first Peanuts animation. Apparently, it goes back to a series of Ford TV commercials in 1959!

  2. The music for the end credits is catchy, too. There are 6 discs or more in the series, so we’ll be watching these for a while through Netflix, unless Eric gets tired of them. Some of the segments are, thankfully, more conventional than the first installments.

  3. TWO BIG THUMBS UP from cousin Molly! Had to play it SEVERAL times over so she could memorize the “cooking song!” ARRGH! Now it’s running through my HEAD! AIEEE!
