Ditko: “So it was all worthwhile?”
Ross: “Yes, Steve, it was all worthwhile.”

Paul,
You make some very good points. Yes, although their meeting apparently turned out well, Ross did ignore Ditko’s refusal. But being a major media personality in England, I suppose it would be too much to expect Ross to not barge in on Ditko.
As I pointed out in another post with a two word Google search, Ditko makes no secret of his address and phone number.
Ditko Steve Artist
200 W 51ST St, New York, NY – (212) 957-9080
So to an extent he has to expect intrusions. And I feel that although Ditko owes nothing to anybody, it would be in his own best interest to come forward and speak openly.
This is a big letdown, especially after all the teasing and buildup.
This reporter is also highly disingenuous, stating he wants to respect Mr. Ditko’s privacy, and can’t provide any substantive details. If he respected Mr. Ditko’s privacy so much, why did he ignore Mr. Ditko’s request not to be bothered when he spoke to him on the phone in front of the building? What a total hypocrite! This is nothing but a self-serving deceit and waste of time!
I can understand Mr. Ditko’s need for privacy, but if his desire is to be left alone, and stop the pestering fans from bugging him, it makes better sense to come forward (if only in print form), and quell the interest by answering a few long standing questions. That might go a long way to quench most fans thirst for information.
Also, as Mr. Ditko must know, both he and his artistic creations are of important cultural and historical significance, and in the interest of history and setting the record down correctly, it is not unreasonable to ask these things.
Don’t know if he’s shy, as much as he is private. Neil Gaiman seemed to be a bit star struck, and there are plenty of fans (including every female comics fan) who are star struck by Neil Gaiman. There’s never been any mention of Ditko having a wife or family, so I assume there are none.
They got in to see him! No pictures, of course. Wonder why the guy is so shy.
