Baseball been berry, berry good…

Sometimes I just can’t keep up with the exciting doings of always-on-the-go D.F. Rogers, holder of two Boston Red Sox season tickets.

D.F. Rogers with Red Sox baseball

Well, in my 22nd season in my seats, I finally got a foul ball! Last night, at Fenway, versus Cleveland, 8th inning, Masterson on the mound, Ben Francisco pinch hitting. He hits a wicked foul line drive past third. It bounces off the wall that sticks into the field (near where the ball boy/girl sits), the ball goes up and into the stands. It bounces off several hands trying to catch it, it looks like it will bounce onto the field but the guy in front of me has it bounce off his hand and right into my outreached hand. I had about 90% of it and the guy next to me had a few fingers on it, but it was in my hand. No fight πŸ™‚ Case closed — I had a foul ball! That’s the way the ball bounces. An inning later, Papelbon gets Martinez to hit a high pop-up to Cora — and the Sox clinch a playoff spot in a tight game!

I assume a ball hit by the Sox would be considered a better collectible…. ? Hey, wait a second. Admit it. This is you holding an apple at a pick-your-own farm, inserted onto a Fenway background.

  1. Thank you. That sounds more hopeful. We’re rootin’ for you. That said, I have an appointment with the dentist today. Looks like another root canal for old Jeanie Beanie! Why did I brag so much about my great teeth a few years back! πŸ™

  2. Hi! Doug, I’m anxious to hear how your appointment and test go. I’m hoping you’ll have many more running days to come! πŸ™‚ D.F., congrats on the game ball! Good luck to the Red Sox! The playoffs should be exciting this year with many close races! Keeping my fingers crossed the Phillies stay in first in N.L. East! Last night my sister was picked in a Phillies/McDonald’s Home Run Payoff for the game and won $200 when Chase Utley hit a homer. Can’t beat that for the price of a few stamps! I know she just sent a few forms in to enter.

  3. I recovered from the eye trouble and ran again, and I made a comeback from the ankle injury, but I don’t know if I’m going to be able to bounce back from this one. It’s painful and debilitating. I’ll know more after I get a referral to a specialist and have a full evaluation.

  4. Congrats, Denro! Go, Sox!

Quit saying that your running days are over, Doug! If you believe they are, they will be. What does the doctor say? Look, you didn’t let a little retinal detachment stop you, didja? There are guys out there running with prosthetics, fer cryin’ out loud! Don’t give up on us now!

  5. Ah, that makes sense. A playoff ball has more meaning than a regular game ball, even if it wasn’t hit by the Sox. See? I’m starting to finally catch on to this stuff. I’ll have the time now to figure it out, as it seems that after 35 years my running days are done.

  6. Congratulations to A GREAT Sox fan!!

I’ve sat in these seats about a few dozen times since 1987 and can attest that they are great seats!! I’m happy for Dennis that he finally caught a ball, and in a playoff clinching game to boot!
