Campaign Trains of Thought

This was sent around at work today…

Campaign Trains

… but this news item isn’t funny.

A sense of grievance spilling into rage has gripped some GOP events this week as McCain supporters see his presidential campaign lag against Obama. Some in the audience are making it personal, against the Democrat. Shouts of “traitor,” “terrorist,” “treason,” “liar,” and even “off with his head” have rung from the crowd at McCain and Sarah Palin rallies, and gone unchallenged by them.

These people are coming from the same trains of thought that created Timothy McVey. Fox News and Rush Limbaugh can blame themselves for helping to fan these flames of hatred.

  1. To continue….So, to those white racists who feel they must intimidate, threaten, suppress, because they feel they “…are losing their country”, way of life, “what the forefathers stood for”, ad infinitum:what exactly has the 4,000+ soldiers who died in this Iraq war started by your lying party’s president die for? Freedom? Of what, hateful speech? To threaten those you see as a threat to you? To hate those your God supposedly tells you to hate? To hate someone who SUPPOSEDLY was and others who ARE from another country, another religion, another way of thinking? Well, are these thoughts of yours not the same ones that led to over 2,000 deaths on American soil on September 11, 2001. Think about it.

  2. To continue on the 2 previous comments I made, unfortunately America is showing its true, ugly, racist, despicable side after what those of us who appreciate fairness, kindness, freedom and intelligence are celebrating as a historic event. Not surprising is the reaction of the supporters of the losing side of the election due to the hate-and fear-mongering campaign of their candidates. The ones who lack the intelligence to know their threats and actions against President Obama and African-Americans are domestic terrorism. This is why I make an open plea to President Obama not to be so welcoming to the Repubs and so ready to unite the country. Why? Because it’s embarassing in this century to have this reaction from my race of people who know damn well THEIR ancestors faced hardship and discrimination when THEY came to America to live out THEIR dream. Now mostly white Repub males are going around threatening Barack Obama because they are too afraid of someone not like them who reached a goal in his life.

  3. Yes, Doug, as Jeanie Beanie knows, our PA has been the embarassing spotlight of McCain/Palin sponsored racism, voter intimidation, false police reports and typical-GOP-stir-up-the-masses-can’t-elect-nobody-who-don’t-look-like-us-he-can’t-be-a-Christian-with-a-name-like-that-we-hate-everybody-but-people-like-us speech. In a previous post I commented about a York County lady who had to roll up her Obama t-shirt since Repubs said that would “sway voters”. Now a McCain staffer stabbed a backward “B” in her cheek (looking in a mirror) saying an imaginary black man attacked her, and a Repub party staffer sent a letter to Jewish voters saying Obama’s victory means a 2nd Holocaust. Staffer is fired but said the party approved the letter. The party said they didn’t. Uh-huh. Thank you GOP, Religious Right, and all your hateful, bigoted, lying, hypocrtical, blowhard political media friends. Thank you for making this a more isolated, separated country. At least now the truth about the GOP is coming out.

  4. Well, Doug, what we hoped wasn’t going to happen has-in an unsealed file, the FBI and ATF have charged 2 skinheads in Jackson, Tennessee with planning to attack a school and kill 88 black students, behead 14, (both 88 and 14 are said to be symbolic numbers to white supremacists), and assassinate Barack Obama. Way to go McCain/Palin, with help from Rush, Hannity, Drudge, Savage, Fox News, EVEN Dobson’s Focus on the Family (sending letters saying with Barack as Prez and a Dems Congress, the Christian of 2012 will be in a godless, socialist, abortionist, terrorist society-Gee, I thought we’d finally have health insurance for everyone so people don’t die from lack of treatment, the rich, like Dobson, won’t keep getting richer from Buddy Bush’s tax cut gift, and among other things, people won’t be living under Bush and the Repubs’ Monarchy/Oligarchy/Theocratic/Police State). Oh, next comment I’ll tell you about the great racist state of PA.

  5. John McCain now thinks he’s in second childhood by going on the election playground and calling out Barack, saying he’s going to “kick his you know what”. And Barack should say, “Ooh! I’m scared!”. πŸ™‚ Well, Doug, on your blog I can go from Mother Nature, to the subject of a real GOP mother___you know what!

  6. Thanks Doug! After having a procedure done in Feb. called an Endometrial Ablation, by my new OB/GYN and my second time seeing her, since then I’ve only had 3 monthly visits from Mother Nature, (editing for little ones who may read your blog!), as opposed to wearing 2 Poise at a time for a visit that may have lasted a month at a time, each month of the year, I gladly welcome that change! Now it’s onto losing the weight I gained from the previous OB/GYN giving me injections of Depo Provera for 5 years to stop my visits. Depo makes your appetite triple and I never want to use it again! I lost 60 lbs.at age 20 and need to lose more than that this time, so I am working on that. What a difference that will make! I got my mountain bike ready to use again and am ready to roll! Right now I’m going out to work on my flower beds and winterize them, plus plant 2 new shrubs and transplant a few. Yup, Joan likes to do it in the dirt! πŸ™‚ K3 ROCKS!

  7. Joan,

I have two friends who have survived non-cancerous brain tumors, a friend who had a heart attack and now wears a stent, and other friends with various conditions, from obesity, to colitis, and high blood pressure, etc.

British author and broadcaster Brian Sibley, whose blog is linked on my front page, makes repeated references to a health problem. I don’t know what it is, but it can’t be minor from his tone.

I’ve had several scares myself, and I’m very appreciative that I’ve been able to bounce back each time. My sincere best wishes to you, Joan, that your health improves, so you can achieve your goals and enjoy life to the fullest.

  8. So to continue, my point is, I’m glad I’m waiting to make my changes, especially career-wise, instead of doing them during the last 19 years by playing it safe. My sister and I have helped each other over those years and she found her big success during the Clinton years (her 40’s). Now it’s my turn πŸ™‚ Since college I’ve changed my philosophy of life-live simply, love nature, appreciate the arts and gifts of previous generations as well as your own, and live healthy-or in my case, GET healthy. We’re just happy to live simply, enjoy our cats, and hope to see this country get back to how it SHOULD be and the sooner the better! Or else it’s plan to move to Canada, the UK or Australia, while Doug learns Flemish and French and plans to go to Belgium!

  9. I just read the story you linked to about the IMF, and Doug, I have to say I am not surprised about this. In 1984 I started college at a better age to me, 22, (a story in itself! πŸ™‚ ANYWAY, seeing the excess spending of the 80’s-not students, but observing trends of people living way beyond their means, then seeing the great amounts of money made in the 90’s dot com explosion, the economy was flying high for many, including a college friend who authored software and made it big. Still, something in the late 90’s was starting to feel not kosher, the dot com balloon was losing air and to me the Millenium seemed it wasn’t going to meet expectations, especially A.B. (After Bill). Ever since Election Night 2000 I have had this feeling of dread, compounded on 11/2/2004. Maybe I’m a late bloomer, but I want to make a bunch of changes in my life, and feel more confident doing it in my 40’s, but many things in the country need reversed first!

  10. I was expecting personal attacks, but this is something else entirely. The so-called base of Joe Six-Packs is turning into a mob, and Sarah Palin is the reason they’re getting riled up, by feeding into the nonsense they’re believing from the names on radio and TV you cite, Joan.

And of course we’re still sliding further into economic oblivion. So says the IMF. I think I’m going to have some wine and watch K3’s “Tele-Romeo” video again.

  11. I certainly don’t claim to be clairvoyant but a few days ago I commented things could get downright scary and ugly during the end run of the campaigns and that was common sense that said that because of the fact that 2 men of different races are running for office and alot is at stake. And I agree that those of Rush’s ilk spitting lies, innuendo and poison like a cobra are only making things worse. We don’t need a bunch of backwoods angry white male NRA members who “don’t want (their) unborn child growing up under a socialist president” going on a killing rampage after listening to Rush, Savage, Drudge, Hannity, et al. When you do find a liberal/progressive voice on the radio, which is rare, if ever, why is it they are usually calm and have a DISCUSSION, not a shout-fest, fire-up-your-exhaust-pipe, almost revival-type diatribe? I get more emotional commenting on Doug’s blog than a Lionel/ Rachel Maddow/Al Franken type does broadcasting, for Pete’s sake! πŸ™‚
