Petula Montage

Jeanie Beanie has spotted a Petula Clark montage homage on YouTube. It was put together by ptownmotowndj, who did a very nice job, but embedding is disabled. Why? I’ve downloaded it and here it is.

  1. Good news, Dougie! I was at the library this afternoon and got out … Julie Andrews’s autobiography! I ‘ll start it tonight! Lots of lovely pictures, but none of them go beyond her halcyon years! I’ll post a full review when I’m done.

  2. Oh. pooh! I just realized the slider doesn’t work. That means the FLV meta data for this video is no good. I try not to miss this problem when downloading YouTube videos. The videos I master myself never have this problem. By the time you see this comment I’ll have fixed the meta data and you can ignore this comment.

  3. We’ve seen Amélie, but that was probably already six years ago. Audrey Tautou was a perfect gamine.

“American Boys” is a clever song. The title can be thought of as a play on “California Girls,” and parts of the recording are evocative of Brian Wilson’s “Pet Sounds” sound. Listen to the backing vocals on the refrain on the outro… and there’s even a surf sound at the end

  4. Doug, you’re one of those “American Boys” she’s singing about! What I also like about this montage is that he guy used little-known (at least to me) Pet songs. Great job!

  5. Prudence is a very pretty woman and she looks great and younger than her age. An actress I thought was very pretty was Claudia Cardinale who was in “The Pink Panther” in 1964, with Peter Sellers and David Niven. I read on Wikipedia that she is happy and healthy and she has an animal welfare website. She made many French films during her career. By the way, a great French film is “Amelie”.

  6. Hi, Dave

Yeah, he did a bang-up job on this. I love the sound — the production — of all these tracks. As my Pru Bury posts reveal, I have quite an appreciation for British beauties, and I must say that Petula is right up there. Like Deborah Kerr before she fell ill, Pet’s charms just won’t quit.

We’ll never again seen a combination of stunning, talented women in peak form at the same time as we did with Petula, Julie Andrews, and Diana Rigg in ’64-’65. Oh, by the way, the paperback edition of Julie Andrews’ memoir is supposed to have Petula in it, and I’ve been meaning to pick it up. Have you seen it?

  7. Ah, a nice cleansing of the palate from K3 (sorry, girls). Pet, Joan (I think)and I thank you. Dammit! Once again, I’m jealous of her not being able to take a bad picture. Those smoldering eyes. Imagine if Pet had a Dutch accent like your old art teacher: “Hello, Dock-less!”
Say, doesn’t Pet look at bit like Julie Andrews on that album cover at 1:52?
