  1. Jan,

Jeopardy! requires a wide breadth of knowledge, and for me it can be both inspiring and discouraging to watch. As long as I get a decent percentage of the questions, I’m happy.

  2. I like to watch Jeopardy, and it just amazes me how well some of those folks do! Another game show, “Millionaire”, or “Want to Be a Millionaire?” also is high-pressure and I’m often just awestruck at how well most of the contestants perform. I didn’t see the episode being discussed here, but I sure wouldn’t want to be on either show. I would instantly make a terrible fool of myself, I just know it! Win or lose, my hat’s off to those courageous souls!

  3. Larissa seemed to write the wrong answer with less speed and certainty than her Final Jeopardy! wins. But I’ll watch it again on the DVR to check. Wait. I already posted the whole thing, didn’t I? It’s right here on my own embedded video. See? There’s a brain glitch right there!

  4. One reason I wouldn`t do well on Jeopardy, despite some knowledge, is that sometimes I have these glitches or go black under pressure. I feel real sympathy for Larissa;I`m sure she could answer a similar question 98 times out 100, you could see she was really down after the contest.

  5. When I saw ‘Philip’ I was gasping at home the same as some in the studio audience. I was surprised to read that the games were recorded “late at night” at the CES. Maybe Larissa was starting to tire and just had a mental glitch. That seemed to be what happened to her back in May when she lost.

  6. She surely knows the difference between Consort and Ruler. Also, the question wanted the 2nd person to hold that name, and he had to be born outside the country. Which means there had to be two Phillips up to that point, not just one. The fact that the other people got the it right, shows it wasn`t that difficult.

  7. I bet she was thinking of King Philip of Spain since she’s focused her studies on Mexican/Spanish/Latin culture.

But to think there was never a kind of England named Philip is simply incorrect- however, there was a king(or King Consort) but he did not carry the same powers of a King Regnant since he was married into it by Queen Mary. The same Philip that I think she was referring to, was king for four years:

  8. I`ve watched Jeopardy for 18 years and never have never been so stunned as with Larissa`s answer on final Jeopardy. For someone with such a broad range of knowledge to think England ever had a king named Phillip is unbelievable.
