Available online until Saturday from BBC Radio 2 is The Songs The Beatles Gave Away. Of particular interest, I think, is Cilla Black and her explanation of how she came to have such a “big voice.”

I totally enjoyed this special. I’m sure you mentioned that Paulie wrote “A World Without Love,” but I must have forgotten it, cause it blew me away! Hearing the rare “giveaways” by the lesser-known groups was the best part. Bonus: we get Showtime for some reason now, and they played the special on the making of the “Love” Cirque de Soleil show in Vegas. The funniest part was watching Yoko ream out the show’s creators: “Come Together” was too slinky and sexy. It was supposed to be a song about coming together against war!” The two guys, who were French, go were French, go off afterward looking a bit upset. I think I caught them saying: “Elle est la fils de John, mais quelle une … ooh la, la!” and shaking their heads.
The best part was watching Paul grab Ringo during every song like and commenting, grinning, and giggling. He admitted once that he was saying, “We WERE a ****ing good band, weren’t we?” He also sang along to every single song! Really poignant was seeing Dhani Harrison’s eyes tear up at the huge photos of his Dad. Dhani is a dead-on ringer for his iconic father. He couldn’t take his eyes off the stage! Olivia Harrison seems like a lovely woman.
