One of my favorite John Lennon tunes. It’s got everything about his half of the Lennon-McCartney team that made them so great, and gave them the unique sound that was The Beatles.

Thanks, Denro! The information was right in front of me and I missed it. The 1999 CD is “Yellow Submarine Songtrack,” which remixes a bunch of mid-late period Beatles songs with stunning results! The 2009 remasters can’t match the sonic superiority of the remixes. Songtrack is proof that there’s at least one more release of the Beatles catalog yet to go.
There is an expanded description attached to the youtube video which explains it. “Hey Bulldog” was recorded while the film crew was apparently there doing the “Lady Madonna” promo film – and they captured plenty of “Hey Bulldog” material! Cool! Here’s the condensed version by “The Quarrymen58”:
“Hey Bulldog” is a song by The Beatles which first appeared on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack album in 1969. Written by John Lennon (credited to Lennon/McCartney), the song was recorded during the filming of the “Lady Madonna” promotional video, and is one of the few Beatles songs to revolve around a piano riff.
To promote the [1999 Yellow Submarine] reissue, Apple went back to the original footage shot for the “Lady Madonna” promo film and restructured it for use as a promotional clip for “Hey Bulldog” (as it is possible to identify what they were playing, and therefore possible to synchronize the music with the original footage).
It was a surprise to me too, Paul. I’ll have to do some checking. It’s been cropped for modern TV screens, but I don’t know if it was originally shown on TV in the 60’s.
Was this the “official” music video of Hey Bulldog? I’ve never seen this before!!! I thought I’d seen them all…any idea where this was originally shown?
so COOL!
