This came in yesterday from across the Atlantic…
Hello from the UK
I have been enjoying your blog for some time now, especially the Petula Clark items. Are you aware of a new version of ‘Downtown’ by ‘The Saw Doctors’, out soon. It features new vocals from Petula.
All for now

Hey, wow, this is great! Thank you so much, Stephen. It’s always nice to know there’s somebody out there, and I should have been aware of the Saw Doctors doing Downtown with Pet, but I wasn’t until now. What splendid fun! The Saw Doctor’s contagious take on Petula’s magnificent Downtown gets released on December 9…
… and I see that the Saw Doctors will be in Massachusetts in March, playing downtown Northampton and Worcester (two good UK names there, a’right), and at the House of Blues in Boston on March 9, close enough to St. Patrick’s day to assure some good, loud times.
Hi Dave! It’s been a while. Thanks for the info on the video. I bought the Saw Doctors “Downtown” MP3 from Amazon. Petula’s upcoming New York visit has gotten coverage in “The New Yorker” magazine.
The video was made in Galway (with the guys) and Paris (with Petula).
I was lucky enough to be on the front row, right in the middle when Petula did her massive concert in November in Paris. She was days off 79, looked a million dollars and sang for an hour and a half, mainly in French, laughing and joking (in French).
One of the guys I met after the show, said that she is unique in France for giving concerts and telling jokes during them, singing a few songs with a comedy streak in them, and yet it’s still billed as a pop concert. No one else can do it.
She makes the French laugh, just as much as the Americans or Scots.
I can’t remember ever having more fun (despite being really ill with flu). Best concert ever.
Luck you; she’s in New York for a two week run … then off to Australia. There’s a new album out in March, and a new website: http://www.petula-clark.com

It served the gag at the end when they switch places so they’re trapped in the TV.
“with” being a relative thing. Looks like they weren’t really in the same place at the same time. I’ve a feeling the video with Pet and the guys together was a piece of green screen magic. Nice rendition of the song, though!
What a treat. Even better, it looks like the Saw Doctors are comfortably in our age group, if not even a bit older. As usual, Pet looks fantastic.
