I saw that same stupid ad that Arlo is struggling to resist. I ignore everything that ends with the ridiculously overused tagline, “Here’s Why.” Even headlines for news items from reputable sources turn me off it they finish with, “Here’s Why.”
That’s a thick laptop computer Arlo has. Must be an old model with a DVD drive.
Yes! I hate that, too! Another detested phrase that whippersnapper journalists must be nuked now: “At the end of the day …” Do they think it sounds intelligent?
Finally, my biggest pet peeve: the use of the preface: “For a long moment …” in literature. Try: “For a long moment, she paused,” or ” She blinked her eyes for a long moment.”
Update: I’m recovering from a long illness, so after forcing myself to watch all six seasons of the sappy “This is the Us,” I re-read “Gone With The Wind.” Imagine my horror when I saw how many times Margaret Mitchell used this hated phrase! Next up: a review of my favorite novel of all time: “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Please Lee, don’t disappoint me.
And Kudos to Arlo for picking up that annoying trend!
Molly’s most overused word: “mitigate.”
