We’re getting a new dishwasher. It’s a Bosch, $598 at Sears, but Lowe’s had it for 20% off.
I’m not so sure we’re saving any money, because in addition to the $155 for installation, there’s $70 in town plumbing and electrical permits, and another $75 to have an electrician there. I questioned the need for that, so I called the Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Electricians, and was told the state does indeed require an electrician to do non-plug wiring. Lowe’s said the electrician will be there to inspect the work, but I said “No, the town does the inspection. I’m paying the 75 bucks to have the electrician do that work.”
So the total cost for our new $480 dishwasher? Nearly $800. Delivery will be Wednesday morning. I could have hired an independent plumber to do the installation, and I bet he wouldn’t have bothered to pull any permits or have an electrician there, but I wanted to be sure the unit gets installed immediately upon delivery.
He couldn’t have done it by himself. It required both plumbing and electrical work, and a bit of luck, due to botched workmanship when the kitchen was remodeled.
Too bad Tom doesn’t live next door; he’d install that sucker for free. Of course, we don’t have those pesky plumbing and electrical permits …. or DO we? Did my husband do something illegal a couple of years back? Hmm … Congrats on your new kitchen toy!
Years ago I owned (with my first husband) a blue-fronted Amazon parrot who was an uncanny mimic of not only my voice, but of household noises. He could imitate the very different sounds of each of the dishwashers in all four of the domiciles we inhabited during our six-year mistake. 😉
Thanks for the Christmas wish, Paul. This year is particularly meaningful, because my wife is OK, after her cancer surgery.
The new Bosch is replacing a 10-year-old Bosch, so I know what you mean about them being quiet. As I write this I’m waiting for the thing to be delivered.
Doug,
I think you’ll love the Bosch dishwasher…I bought a new home in New Hampshire that had the top-of-the-line Bosch dishwasher and we’d almost have to put our ear up to it to hear it running! It was the quietest dishwasher we ever owned! Good luck…and have a relaxing and meaningful Christmas!
Yeah, that extra tall item sprinkler sure is tempting, but somehow we managed to hold ourselves back.
But did you get the SGZ1052UC to go with it??
