Tomorrow’s weather on the east coast seems to be heading for a replay of last weekend.
Looks like we’re headed for the liquor store.

Hi, Joanaroo! I first heard that expression, “The Shurkill Distressway” from my ex-husband, who was from the Plymouth-Whitemarsh area outside of Philly, although I met him in Boston.
You guys got slammed the worst, the Philly area on down into Baltimore and D.C., that is. I saw on our local news that even some schools around Lancaster are STILL closed today. There was a bit of a backlash as far northeastward into our area, but it was stopped by the mountains crossing through. State College (“Go, Penn State!) got a lot less snow than we did. We live in the northern part of the Appalachians. We’re on the Mennonite side of Jack’s Mountain (really a very long ridge), with the Amish on the other side 😉 You guys will be digging out for a few more days!
We got next to nuthin’ here, in the way of snow. I cleared the driveway with a shovel in 15 minutes. In a heavy storm it takes an hour with the snow thrower.
They closed the PA Turnpike part known as the Schuylkill Expressway (or Shurkill Distressway) and also 476. I live very close to Rt. 422 and it intersects 202 which I believe may have been closed part of the day. Glaxo Smith Kline closed yesterday and they said people could work from home today so since my sister has her laptop here, that’s what she did.
Hi Doug and Jeanie Beanie! Did you say “snow”? Well, I wanted snow and I got it! As in at least 3 feet of snow on the ground! We’re getting dug and blown out by our lawn and snow buddies sometime today. Two feet on average fell here in the Montgomery Co., PA area Fri. & Sat., a little melted Sun. and Mon., and then we got around 2 feet more Tue. and yesterday!
Not even two inches of it here.
It’s official: Our county has been declared a disaster area. Nobody is allowed to gone ANYWHERE. The wind is SCREAMING like a banshee outside even as I type this. How the electricity is staying on is anybody’s guess, although the snow is pretty much stopped.
As of right now, we are still trapped in the band that is “backlashing” DC, Harrisburg, DC, Philly and the other areas. I just watched Bernie Rayno (my wedding shower was thrown at his house by his then-fiance) do a video from an hour ago saying the band was not expected to go back that far into PA and last this long. We now MAY be looking at some record snowfall numbers by morning. It’s less than 20 degrees out right now, and that’s not counting the brutal wind chill factor. It’s times like these that I do miss the chaotic fun of working at Accu-Weather. “The Perfect Storm” in the North Sea and Hurricane Andrew were really cool, because I was there to watch them unfold.
I was hoping the Accuweather map would catch your attention. So far, not much happening here. It’s sort of a snow-rain shower mixture. Not the heavy 8″+ we were expecting to have by now.
We are really getting pounded. Major blizzard conditions! School was canceled yesterday morning for today, and this morning for tomorrow. My husband may not make it back from work. We already had 16 inches from the first storm, got about seven inches overnight, and will probably get another foot today. For now, we DO have electricity. Luckily, I know how to make a fire in the stove insert in our fireplace and we have a gas grill out on the deck for cooking. This is as bad as the storm that hit right after Molly was born in Jan. 1996, if not worse. Records will be broken since record-keeping began in this country in DC, Baltimore, Philly, maybe NY, and lots of towns in NJ. PA cities won’t; we broke them all in ’96. The wind is ferocious out there right now.
