Risky Business

A woman with fibroids in her uterus managed to carry a pregnancy safely into the third trimester. She did this under the care of an obstetrician specializing in high-risk cases. She couldn’t be allowed to go into labor, so a C-section was scheduled.

As the procedure began, the woman’s uterus suddenly burst. The physician had to work fast to complete the incision, deliver the baby alive, and pass it to an assisting physician.

The blood loss was profound, and the specialist did everything possible to save the mother’s life. Fortunately, she succeeded. The obstetrician was my eldest sister.

I haven’t asked my sister what she thinks of Roe v. Wade being overturned, and I won’t ask her. A high-risk obstetrics specialist in Boston offers these insights.
