  1. Yes, computers were used for cartoons in the 80’s, starting with the backgrounds. All of the backgrounds for the Smurfs cartoons were computer-generated.

  2. Jill is the youngest of Schulz’s five children, and she’s the only one not seen in the 1963 footage, so presumably she was pre-school age. I wasn’t aware of her aspirations to be a performer of some sort until seeing this video clip.

Daughter Amy was Schulz’s favorite, or so the story goes. Amy got into figure skating, and Sparky had hopes she would become another Peggy Fleming. But it was not to be.

There were rumors of eldest child Meredith being a rebel and fighting with her father, but I haven’t found anything substantiating that. Even if they didn’t get along, they apparently made up at some point, because Meredith gave a loving eulogy at her dad’s memorial service.

  3. I’ve never seen his daughter Jill at this age; she’s very pretty. Is she an actress or dancer?

  4. WOW! They were talking about CGI back in 1985??? COING? Am I missing something? I had NO IDEA!

  5. He doesn’t exactly deny it, he says there’s a little bit of him in all the characters — the wishy-washy part being Charlie Brown.
