The first day of my Economics 101 class, so long ago, began with the professor holding up a toy gun and an empty package of butter. The props represented the two largest parts of the government budget — military spending and social programs.
Trump is making his preference quite plain. Whereas Democrats understand the necessity of social programs, Republicans will always favor weapons manufacturing over helping the “losers” who need government assistance. It’s a population that, of course, includes many Trump suckers.
Did I say suckers? Sorry, I should have said voters.
