It’s been a couple of years since I last wrinkled up my nose and pursed my lips in disdain of William F. Buckley. A man of too many words who could be curiously inarticulate when presenting his half-baked ideas.
The video here is from 1974. A corrupt president had resigned, and America was reeling not only from that, but also the hard lesson of oil dependency. A lesson we are learning again under another corrupt president, who I wish very much would resign.
I was into watching Firing Line, so I may have seen this at the time. William E. Simon was Treasury Secretary. Simon was a class of Republican represented more recently by Mitt Romney.
