Trump’s Hankles

There’s no bottom to how low Trump will sink in any and every regard. I’m sure you’ve heard about our petty, draft-dodging president denying Tom Hanks an award ceremony at West Point.

Trump will claim he had nothing to do with it, but of course it was his order, carried out by Pete Hegseth. I would consider it an honor being called “woke” by Trump.

Ape Art

Bidding will end soon on Frank Frazetta’s painting for the Lancer paperback book cover of Robert E. Howard’s Conan story, “Rogues in the House.”

It’s currently at $8,500,000, with Heritage Auction’s so-called Buyer’s Premium taking it up to $10,625,000.

This is Barry Smith’s cover illustration for the Marvel Comics adaptation of the story, as written by Roy Thomas.

Here is an interesting comparison. It’s Bernie Wrightson’s illustration for Poe’s “Murders in the Rue Morgue.”

Where No House Has Gone Before

‘Star Trek’-inspired Connecticut home is listed for $1.4 million

“It’s going to take a special buyer,” the listing agent said.

The price was dropped by a hundred grand in late June.

The Star Trek angle doesn’t fit. The original series never featured an exterior or interior set that looked anything like that house. Star Trek: The Next Generation sometimes did, but the house was built in 1985, and the series began in 1987.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, ‘The Inner Light’, S5:E25, 1992

I think they probably meant to say Star Wars. Regardless of that consideration, it’s a cool looking place to live. Somebody will explore this strange property to seek out a new residence.

Meet the Beetle

A few weeks ago at the NCS conference, I very much enjoyed my conversation with Greg Walker. CBS Saturday Morning has this excellent segment about Beetle Bailey and the Walker brothers.

Mort Walker’s long-gone cartoon museum in Port Chester, NY is mentioned. I was there for Marvel Comics Day in September, 1978.

I have the upcoming Beetle Bailey 75th anniversary book on pre-order with Fantagraphics. It’s also available on Amazon, of course.
