After watching some wild James Tyer animation tonight, I drew this cartoon super fast, without caution or concern over how it came out.

Who was Jim Tyer? Here are some examples of his “anything goes” style.
From the mind of Dr. Seuss, The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T. is one of those movies I’ve heard about for decades, but hadn’t gotten around to seeing. TCM has made it possible for me to correct this omission, and it’s a visual feast!
Hans Conried is perfect as the comically maniacal Dr. T. Tommy Rettig, who was Lassie’s pal on TV before Jon Provost, carries the narrative of the movie. It’s a musical, and I enjoyed the songs, but its fantastic cartoon-like images, beautifully restored in HD, are the big draw for me.

This is a brand-new appearance of Wendell and his buddy Beckle, who is now wearing shorts! The completed, inked strip should be ready soon. Don’t know how many more new installments I’ll get done, but I’ve written five more dailies and a Sunday.

My lettering needs more practice. In the third grade, long ago, we had to learn cursive writing with a fountain pen. Being a leftie it was a struggle to avoid smearing wet ink, just like Charlie Brown giving up the effort and switching to be pencil pal.
Here it is, the final sample from my original set.

This strip is my favorite of the bunch, for multiple reasons: I have a fondness for cartoons with rain; The acid rain idea makes it unusual; I like the sentiment about symbiosis; The umbrella not only takes advantage of Beckle’s hat gimmick, it resembles Batman’s cape; And, finally, I think the finished art came out all right.
The last old strip will appear tomorrow, and a new one will be posted on Sunday, although not in its final form. These are preliminary sketches for the second new installment.
