Open/Close Exile

[flv:http://www.dograt.com/Video/JAN07/LastExile.flv 425 240]

Way back in this blog’s dark ages of embedded video, I posted a brief clip from an Animé series called Last Exile.

For a long time we’ve been meaning to post the opening and closing to the show. And thanks to Santa having given Eric a Last Exile box set for Christmas, here they are.

Daioh Snow

At our house we’re getting closer to the end watching the Japanese TV series Azumanga Daioh. For sheer wacky fun, it’s hard to beat. But every so often it has a quiet and poignant sequence, as I’ve pointed out previously. Here’s another one.

Enigmatic Animé

With Netflix envelopes coming and going at our house, we’re working our way through no fewer than three different Animé TV series! One of them is the enigmatic Haibane Reinmei, highlighted previously. The video has the opening and closing credits.

Carlyle and Hobson

I once drew a parody cartoon of Calvin and Hobbes, never published, using the name of two other political thinkers. Calvin ends up being institutionalized by his distraught parents, where he meets up with Dennis the Menace. Here’s a decidedly more twisted take on Calvin’s fate.

Bloody Cartoonist

Arlo and Janis
Arlo and Janis creator Jimmy Johnson confused me and my friend Sam when he said nothing in his blog about last week’s series, which seemed to indicate that he had cut his finger rather badly.

He’s posted a partial explanation. Click here to read. Jimmy doesn’t use permalinks, so if he suddenly posts something new, you’ll have to scroll down to find this item.

Jeff Dan-zingers

Danziger.gif

Caricature isn’t the strongest suit of political cartoonist Jeff Danziger, but I think he has a great drawing style. I appreciate the fact he seems to have been more influenced by Pat Oliphant than the late, overly-emulated Jeff MacNelly. Sometimes Danziger’s ideas and imagery are Old School, but every so often he hits the spot. Here’s a good one.
