From Brazil to Belgium

OK, you’ve had your little break from K3, but now we’re back with more of Karen, Kathleen, and Kristel. I can’t say if Xuxa’s success in Brazil 15-20 years ago had any influence on Studio 100’s introduction of K3 as a Pop act that hosts a children’s show, but watching these videos I have to wonder.

This is K3 with a Latin beat. The second video, “Feest” (Celebration), has some bizarre CG models of the ladies. The last video is a live version of the same song, and at the moment it’s having buffering problems on YouTube, and that’s why it’s last. If it locks up, drag the button past that point and it should pick up again. The third tune is their brand-new single, which is somewhat evocative I think of ABBA’s “Fernando.”

But now let’s meet Xuxa. This is a 1993 feature from Inside Edition, and it’s introduced by none other than…. Bill O’Reilly.

Pop Quiz

I would hope by now you can put names to the faces. Remember how the Beatles looked the same at first? Here you have a blond, a brunette and a redhead, so it’s easy. C’mon, you can do it!

If you have any doubts that the three K’s really can sing, and do quiet material, this video has them singing live, with only a piano accompaniment. The song is “Je hebt een vriend” — “You Have a Friend.” The video for the original recording can be seen here on YouTube.

The Making of K3’s “Kissing Day”

I’m still not ready with my intended posts, and embedding YouTube videos is so quick and easy that’s what I’ll do. And, guess what? Once again it’s K3’s greatest song, “Kusjesdag” — Kissing Day!

Most of you will run screaming from the room, or maybe just click away from here, but I think this is one of the best bits of pre-fab fluff I’ve ever heard. I love this song. It’s an anthem! An antidote to all of the terrible events, man-made and natural, on this Friday the 13th.

So here we go with a short “making of” about the “Kusjesdag” video. The ladies could be saying rude things for all I know, and if they are, you’d have to know Flemish to know that. Following the mini-documentary is another live (undoubtedly lip-synched) performance. This one was, I assume, done at one of the Studio 100 theme parks. I think I just about have the dance moves memorized. 😉
