Mirren was in the absolute most infuriating and bizarre movie I’ve ever seen, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. At age 44, Mirren looked absolutely smashing in it, and her performance couldn’t be faulted, but the movie was just so awfully distasteful. And I use that word for a very specific reason.
Well, you stumped me on that one! I’m losing my touch. Mirren is a favorite of mine. There’s “Oscar buzz” on for her unsparing portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in the hours and days following Princess Diana’s death in 1997. She’s still a lovely woman, and thank God she hasn’t resorted to plastic surgery!
