The next video in the Petula series is from the 1949 movie, The Huggetts Abroad; abroad being South Africa. This song, “Doodle Oodle Day”, is even sillier than the nonsensical “Walking Backwards” in the previous post.
I downloaded the video clips from three different online services. Many of them were posted only a month ago.
Here you can hear Pet’s grown-up voice starting to assert itself. She has a high forehead, which is probably why we never saw her WITHOUT bangs of some sort once she arrived in America via “Downtown,” or “Duntun” as Tom would say. I like the “Huggets!” Such a sweet, non-dysfunctional family! Naturally, here they are in South Africa, at the height of its awful apartheid! The Brits thought nothing was wrong about it then.
