13 in 1941, or 17 in 1945?

Here’s my father, George Pratt, scanned from a photo sent by his cousin Lawrie. It’s either from 1941, when he was 13, or 1945, when he was 17 and about to join the Navy. Both dates are written on the back! Which is it, Dad?

  1. I figured it had to be 1941 as well. This was in the photo album Mom put together for all the kids in 1990. Boy, you can really see traits of a lot of us kids. Cute poocher.

  2. Thanks! We assumed it was taken at 13, but Lawrie figured the later date was the correct one. July, in fact, is the 1941 date written on the photo. You still look so young in your Navy entrance picture from ’45 that I had to ask to be sure.

This picture was taken in the summer of 1941 at age 13…not in 1945 at age 17. I wasn’t home at all that year, as I had just joined the U.S.Navy on my 17rh birthday, January 01, 1945.

That’s our “Jack Dog” with me in the picture. He was our last and best family pet. He passed away while I was in the Navy, from an enlarged diseased liver. He was a great loss to us, much like Georgia’s recent demise is to Marianne’s family. My Mother couldn’t bear to tell this bad news until I had returned home from the Navy.

    Dad
