Battlestar Bows Out

My buddy Bismo has been coming over most Friday evenings for a couple of years now, getting us into the DVD releases of recent TV shows we’d never seen. He started with The Tick, a hilarious short-lived live action show that’s an absolute must-see for any comic book fan, past or present. Then we moved on to the somewhat longer-lived sci-fi show Firefly, and its finale movie Serenity, and now we’re watching the ambitious and substantial Battlestar Galactica.

We’re in the second season of Battlestar, and Bismo says the next show will introduce Lucy Lawless’ character. The third season isn’t out on DVD yet, and it’s been announced that the upcoming fourth season will be the last. FiOS Video On Demand has a short feature about the show, with some of the cast. There’s an abrupt splice where I took out a spoiler I don’t want Eric to hear.

  1. Well, it is indeed weird that the only Beatle about whom “will he live” was asked, was John. Also, at the very end of the closing credits of HELP, John’s face is frozen in the gem of the ring and he gleefully exclaims, “Missed me! Missed me!” Ah, if only that had been so, because MDC didn’t miss, and so we missed John.

  2. RE: The TICK. Doug has the short-lived live-action show. But are the animations available on DVD yet?

  3. OMIGOD, The TICK! Marianne’s friend Will Wright got Molly and I hooked on that a few years back. He sent us all sort of fun stuff, coins and stickers, plus three six-hour tapes of episodes, which I accidentally taped over. My favorite villain? Chairface Chippendale. Molly and I couldn’t stop laughing when he blew out his birthday candles. Arthur (Mothman) having such a hot girlfriend was funny, too. What was that catchword The Tick used?

Yeah, OK, the video looks GREAT!

  4. OK, so who’s going to jump up and shout, “Wow, that video looks GREAT!”? At last I have Flash (FLV format) looking the way I want it to look. The bit rate is higher than it would be with WMV, but the results are to my liking. I’ve posted several videos using this refined technique.
