Big Apple Con — Soupy Sales

Along with Morty Gunty and Chuck McCann, a favorite NY TV host of mine when I was a kid was Soupy Sales. Soupy was at the Big Apple Con, and sadly he’s obviously not the man he was. Although Soupy can no longer speak, he understands everything and he still communicates very well. I was happy to be able to express my appreciation. Here’s a picture of my buddy Dennis with Soupy.

I’ve customized a YouTube player with a more-or-less complete show from 1965, at the peak of his run in New York. God Bless You, Soupy Sales!

  1. There are several stories from those days. The one about telling kids to look for the “green paper” is true, but some others are not. You can do the online research as easily as I can!

  2. God love him! I wish I had been there to give him a big hug and to say he helped me through some really rough spots in my childhood. The show was great; I couldn’t read everything on the slides, but I do recall there being a lot of “inside” jokes on the show. Didn’t the door knock once and Soupy was TRULY set up by a naked woman? It was supposed to be somebody else, but the boys in the crew planned the practical joke. Maybe it’s just a show biz legend. I STILL remember Shirley Bassey singing “Goldfinger” on the show! And don’t forget Frank Sinatra!
