Denro says this one has it all — Tommy Dorsey’s band with Frank Sinatra, Connie Haines, and Jo Stafford. From June, 1941, six months before Pearl Harbor, this is ‘Let’s Get Away From It All.’ It starts with Jo’s pure, clean voice and the Pied Pipers, then Frank and Connie, with her distinctly different sound, come in.

I know Jean, my mom was 6, my dad 14 and my grandmom (Mom’s mom) was 28 when that song was recorded and they all loved big band-my parents still do and I love the fact that so many artists, even those younger than us are keeping it alive. You can’t live without the standards and I think they’ll live on as classical music has done.
It drives Molly nuts that I insist on playing all my big band Christmas music FIRST when we start decorating for the holidays. I mean, what else gets you in the mood faster? Will I get in trouble if I say I much prefer the lovely silken voice of Jo Stafford to the cute-as-a-button trilling of Connie Haines. Of course, nothing beats da Chairman at his peak!
In a way, I envy Mom and Dad, as they were just “kids” when this stuff was playing on the airwaves and GOSH, it was swell!
