Hi! Last baseball comment for awhile! The Phillies had their parade today and coverage started at 11:30 and the parade went to the 2 adjoining stadiums After the speeches there the whole thing ended at 5:30! There were a ton of people there and my sister’s boss at Glaxo had a meeting to go to in Philly that had been planned weeks ago and he had to go to Spring Garden Street, smack dab in the city. I would’ve stayed overnight last night in Philly, but at the time this meeting was planned was at the beginning of the playoffs, so we’ll see how he did. Now we’ll see how the rest of our teams do in their seasons.
Thanks Doug! Yes, I’m very happy for the Phils! It was told on ESPN that the parade is tomorrow at Noon and I’ll be watching on TV since traffic will be nuts! Last night a ton of fans spilled out in the streets and it looked like Mardi Gras without too much debauchery and nakedness (too cold!). When they interviewed Jayson Werth after the game he had lost his voice 3 days before and I said to my sister, “See, I told you the change in temperature and location and that cold rain would get ’em sick!”. For the salary they get I’d be out in goddawful heat, cold and rain too, but still it can wear you down and get you a bug. I had to laugh at a press conference Monday night when someone asked Charlie Manuel, “On Tuesday, Wednesday or Thanksgiving, whenever you play again, will the delay have any effect on the motivation of the team?”. It seemed like it may be Turkey Day before it was over. And the Weather Channel had said few showers Monday night, then changed the forecast to rain around 5 PM!
Well, Joan. Philadelphia did it! Good thing, too. I was worried the baseball season would extend into November!
Thanks Doug! I have Fox on with Joe and Jon on ESPN Radio. The Phils are ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd. Have to squint to read the inning number! As Andy Rooney might say, “Did you ever notice the larger the older population is getting, the smaller the graphics are getting on sports broadcasts? Why is that? Back in the 60’s and 70’s the graphics shown on revisited games are large enough to see without needing magnification or a younger person to translate for me.”. I’m hoping the next 19 outs come smooth and easy! GO PHILS! Win it for Tug McGraw, Richie Ashburn and Charlie Manuel’s mom!
Looks like the Phils are going to take it tonight, Joan!
Well I’m pleased to say the Phils have done a 360 turn since Thurs. night and now are 3 games ahead to 1 for Tampa Bay! Here’s hoping they win with Cole Hamels tomorrow night and prevent a return to Tampa! It’s been 25 years since Tug McGraw won in 1980 and Philly is ready for a World Series parade! Between baseball and the election, that’s alot of excitement for a couple weeks!
P.U.! That’s how the Phils played Thurs. night. It should be interesting to see if the Phils & Rays play tonight, depending on how long this rain lasts. Otherwise they’ll play Tues. night. In the spirit of the original post, what is the difference between analog and digital broadcasting? Is the 010101…”language” used like it is on music cd’s?
Hi! Well, 1 game down, 3 more wins to go! I’m watching the game on Fox but listening to a ESPN Radio game feed from Jon and Joe from Sunday Night Baseball. I like Jon and Joe and even turn their games on in summer even if I’m not a fan of the teams because I like the Jon Miller/Joe Morgan “ambience”. It’s going to be even colder the 3 days they would play in Philly. Get this-Sat. we could have thunderstorms (!) and temps of 65/44, Sun. partly cloudy 60/41, then Mon. a few showers and 52/34. That’s football weather! Can anyone tell me why the Farmer’s Almanac (not the Old one) says the winter is to be cold and snowy for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, but the Weather Channel says equal chance of below- or above-average temps and normal precip for both areas? Now granted the Weather Channel has technology up the yazoo, but wouldn’t it seem that they would be going by the same weather characteristics to determine this? Almanacs use nature’s signs too, so we’ll see who’s correct! π GO PHILS!
I saw Doug that it’s possible to post comments at older posts again–Thank you my child! Because my most recent baseball comment was here I thought I’d add to it here. Tomorrow the Phils play Tampa Bay in game 1, but I still wish they were playing the Red Sox. I watched their game 7 and thought they may power thru, but nope. These guys are all liable to end up with pneumonia, going from playing in Tampa to Philly. It’s to be cold as all get out here this week and the games I guess are all to be played at 8 PM EDT so it’ll be downright chilly here. If they play here Sat., Sun. & Mon., it’s to rain here Sat. and temps are to be: Sat. 62/50, Sun. 63/48 & then the temps drop Mon. at 55/38. Tampa Bay better bring their long johns with them! π Glad I’ll be watching from home or I’d be in the little frozen girls room alot!
Yes, we Democrats, some Independents and lapsed Republicans are stupid and with good reason! The past 8 years have made us dull, unimaginative, and boring, not to mention robbed blind of any identity, unless the GOP gave it to us: Against the war-“Unpatriotic”, of another religion, i.e. not Christian-“Terrorist, Communist, Athiest”, Understanding other races and cultures-“Unamerican, Elitist”. I like “STUPID”, that is:Sick and Tired of Unsubstantiated Political Innuendo and Deception. But not only that, also “VERY RIDICULOUS”, which is Very Easily Repulsed by Your Republican Idolatry Deceptively Inferring Christian Uniformity, and against Libelous, Odious, Unethical Slurs. Yup, those pretty well sum us up!
Yes, Cactus Lizzie, you should go to Bill Ayers’ website and read the violent comments he’s getting from GOP/McCain supporters. Attacks on him, family members, Barack and family, Democrats. Anything from insults (racist especially), radically xenophobic remarks, and very hateful plus unveiled death threats. Someone asked many of the same questions you did Lizzie, to no avail. And there are threatening remarks by idiots who left their e-mail address because his site is also run by Word Press. And no, I didn’t leave any comments because it would be a lost cause on these GOP yahoos anyway. They have a computer mouse in one hand and likely a gun in the other. No wonder the DSA sounds good more and more. These Joe 6-packs are not people I want to live around.
OK! No prob, Bob! (as heard on “Bob The Builder”). I know when I went to put a comment to an older post I only see a highlighted “Trackback To Post” but clicking to that brings you back to the same page without the comment grid either time. Take your time repairing it since you always keep your posts updated and with a good variety of topics so I’ll comment at the newer posts. I’ll be watching and rooting for the Red Sox tonight! π A true Philly cheesesteak to me is fried thinly-sliced steak sheets with melted American cheese on it, in a long, soft Kaiser roll with a nice orange-colored tomato sauce. Onions? People love them on steaks, but not me! UH-fugeddaboudit! If you go to Pittsburgh and more recently in this area you can get cheesesteaks with EVERYTHING! EWW! I just can’t imagine a cheesesteak with lettuce and sweet peppers on it. That to me belongs on a hoagie. I haven’t been to Citizen’s Bank Park yet but some former Phils have a barbecue restaurant there and ribs are their specialty.
If Obama is a radical extremist by association, then Jesus, who befriended tax collectors, supported the Roman occupation of Israel. Then Jesus, who was pals with sinners, must have been one, too. Then Jesus, who was friends with prostitutes, must have been either a john or a pimp.
NO, I am NOT comparing Obama with Jesus Christ. I’m just trying to make a vivid point about being quick to judge people for “guilt by association.” I have a few friends who are very right-wing conservative Republicans. But for anyone to think that I must agree with their political opinions on issues would be DEAD WRONG.
Joan,
The comment problem is described at this link. I’ll deal with later, when I don’t have any distractions. Poking around the database is something I do only when absolutely necessary, and when I can devote all my attention to it.
Joan,
Jean reported the comment logon problem, which is now gone, but I didn’t know that older posts aren’t accepting comments. I suspect a bug. I need to do an update to the WordPress blogging software, but it’s a major pain doing that so I’ve been putting it off. I’ll do it and see if that takes care of this latest glitch.
And yes, congrats to Phillie. Boston wins by eating hotdogs, and Phillie lives on cheesesteak, right? π
Hi! This really has nothing to do with the topic(s) posted either, only I can’t get in to post a comment anymore in any of the Red Sox posts. Ever since a few nights ago when I was being asked to log in, now I can only comment on posts since that night. ANYHOW! THE PHILLIES WON THE N.L. PENNANT! Now we’re all watching to see who they play. I hope the Red Sox win the A.L. Pennant for you guys, plus I’d rather see the Phils play the Red Sox than the Rays. The Phils are more familiar with the Red Sox and the Rays are one tough team. If it’s a Phils/Red Sox World Series, it could be called the Red Flannel Series because starting tomorrow it’s going to start getting colder! By the way, we’ve had Comcast Digital Cable for a while because of the channels available and when the changeover occurs, Comcast should lower their price since EVERYONE will have digital signals on their TV! π
Jean –
There’s nothing for you to do with your TV hookup unless your cable company says so. The point of this item that I posted in June is that my cable company said I had to do something.
Morris had no trouble getting his DTV converter working. He said it’s just like hooking up a VCR, so I’m sure Dad can manage it.
Paul –
The bottom line is, one of those two guys is going to the White House. I don’t believe the choice is a coin toss, because the Supreme Court appointments will be very different depending on who’s doing the nominating. And I really do feel that we need to get out of Iraq as quickly as possible, and that the tax cuts for the ultra-rich should be allowed to expire as planned.
If Obama is a radical extremist by association, then I guess I must be one too, because in high school and college I was friends with a guy who belonged to the SDS. He went to Yale and Harvard Law, and he’s now an attorney in New York who has done work for the ACLU.
Doug,
This comment has nothing to do with the VERY funny video clip you posted…
I’m watching the presidential debate right now. These two men are quite possibly the biggest liars and con-artists that I’ve EVER seen as candidates for president! Obama is only telling lies when he opens his mouth. McCain is a rambling, old-coot…good job John..say Joe Plumber, Maverick, cut taxes, heathcare, energy independence a few more times! Maybe someone will believe you.
Obama…keep lying about your connections with radicals and terrorists…American’s are too stupid to understand that you are either a radical extremist or have really terrible judgement…perhaps both. America is in for serious trouble with either of these cretins.
Let me get this straight: we have basic cable connected to all four of our TV sets via a local operator, so we don’t need to worry about this conversion, right? Or will I end up as befuddled as the sweet old lady in this ad? Now DAD, of course, uses analog only, and will have some fun with that!
