This is the 40th anniversary of my parents moving us to Massachusetts. Christmas of ’68 is indelibly associated in my mind with $1 Peanuts books and the Beatles record called “The Beatles”.
I don’t listen to the White Album every Christmas, but I’m glad that Fantagraphics made it possible to revive the Charlie Brown tradition by publishing The Complete Peanuts. I posted a picture of last year’s books, and I’ll start a new tradition by showing you this year’s books. One of them has a serious printing defect, but all of the pages are there so I don’t mind.
We enjoy getting a few new ornaments every year, and Carol bought this one with Snoopy and Woodstock.
Hi! I haven’t been in a Hallmark store in ages and it sounds like they’re selling alot of the sound-effect ornaments and cards. I like the commercial-and I think it was a Hallmark one-where the guy got a card that played “U Can’t Touch This” and he imagines he’s M.C. Hammer doing the dancing in the puffy pants.
It’s the weird album? I thought it was the white album! 😉
We missed out getting the Trek communicator ornament. Sold out. So instead Eric wanted the Pac Man arcade ornament.
Oh, yeah, we got that weird album with the totally blank cover that year, didn’t we?
Cute ornament! Sure likes like a pricey Hallmark Traditions to me. Tom got one of a first generation Star Trek communicator with complete sound effects and 12 different sayings in all the main characters’ voices. Just flipping it open is fun! This idea was lifted from Marianne, who was coerced into buying an “Old Trek” style Enterprise Hallmark ornament by Katie and Sarah. Sarah played it for me over the phone. Tom’s a huge fan, so Molly and I ran over to the Hallmark store in State College. Alas, they were out of the NC-1700s, but the communicators were plentiful, at a whopping $19.95!
And THANKS, Dougie, for the great Christmas card! Looks like they’re able to leave longer sound bites on cards these days.
