I’m ashamed to admit that Steve’s own comments about his departure took the wind out of my sails about the chances of his return to the Boston nighttime airwaves. Thanks go to Ben Goodman for hanging in there!

    I figure the left channel in mono is either incompetence, or sabotage. Dyett is, to my surprise, in his 70’s. Gil Santos, the longtime WBZ 1030 sports anchor, is retiring soon from the station, but he’ll continue to call the Patriots football games.

  2. Hi Doug! An FM station broadcasting a show in mono-what’s up with that?!! You know, maybe Lovell Dyett only wanted a half-hour, but that’s an insult to him if he wanted his show back. I miss that voice-Lovell, I miss hearing you and your sign off “I love you, I love you madly!”.

  3. There’s been some confusion about when Steve will return, and it’s definitely Monday night going into Tuesday morning. I’m sure he’ll spend the first hour or two doing nothing but taking calls offering him congratulations and welcoming him back.

    Meanwhile, at another CBS Boston station, Oldies 103 continues to play Tom Kent’s syndicated show in mono, with only the left channel. B101 in Providence carries it at the same time, in stereo.

  4. Hi! Glad to read that Steve and Lovell will be back! I’m glad the station came to its senses and agreed to bring back the guys. Hey! Some of us do like hearing about the family cat! 🙂

  5. Wow! Writing a protest letter really DOES pay off! I wrote one to both campaigns, and I don’t even listen to Steve! Of course, since I have many fond memories of listening to WBZ as a teenager, I felt almost as slighted as everybody else. Thanks for the great news, Ben!
