Why am I doing this?
Congratulations! We’re honored that you will be one of the competitors in the 113th running of the Boston Marathon. Registration for this year’s Boston Marathon sold out in record time, and we look forward to delivering you a memorable experience.
Oh, it’ll be a memorable experience, all right. When I’ve collapsed on Heartbreak Hill and they’re putting me in an ambulance. Every year I say I’m not in shape to run it, but this year I really mean it!
P.S. Dougie! When does the 2009 Boston Marathon site go up? You can’t pick up your letter till the last second, right? I love following your progress the day of the big race! (as does Dad). Are they going to use the pate-cam again this year? JESSTTT joshing!
We’ve had a run of delectably balmly weather, but the dampness helps not the screaming back! Anyway, Molly is waiting for it to dry out so she can jump on her new bike she got for Christmas! I find myself starting to speedwalk, but then chest pains and back pains make me have to STOP! Since I don’t get short of breath, I’m beginning to suspect that the chest pains are really the ruptured disk pushing in on my breast bone. Tom was grossed out giving me a back rub (verrrrrry carefully) because he could immediately feel that the disks had been “rearranged.”
You are correct, sir! (about the auction, that is!)
Seriously, it’s been a bad year for getting ready for Patriot’s Day. Sunday I did one of my long outings and the weather was horrible. Would have done it Saturday, but that was Crumb exhibit day.
An “original Superman” is either Action #1 or Superman #1. Both issues, as rare as they are, are almost always for sale somewhere. Without even looking it up, I can guess that Heritage is brokering this auction.
You’re doing it because you CAN! And stop that nonsense about ambulances; we have enough health problems around here to worry about it! To steal and rework a line from “The Dick Van Dyke Show,’ “Hey, look at the middle-aged guy slowing down up there. He’s grabbing his chest! Or is his his back? He looks so scared HIS SCALP’S STANDING ON END!”
Don’t worry, Dougie, you’ll be great, AND you’ll get the medicine to Aunt May in record time this year. Speaking of comics, did you hear that the ORIGINAL Superman #! issue is going up for auction soon?
Thanks, Joan. The best I can do the day of the race depends on the best I can do preparing for the race, and right now it’s not going too well. But I keep plugging along!
Hi Doug! We-e-ell, just do your best dear! Take it easy and do it the best you can. In my best shape I was a walker and at the most a light jogger so anyone who enters a marathon and finishes it in any mode of motion is a hero to me. The only way I’d get to the second half of a marathon would be with a pair of sneakers with those skating wheels in them! And even then I probably wouldn’t finish on the same day as the event.
