Amsterdam sinks into a sea of decadence

According to Fox News, liberal Holland is out of control and drug addicts have run amok, particularly in Amsterdam. One resident of the capital city of the Netherlands begs to differ.

But despite appearances, is Amsterdam in fact a cesspool of decadence and despair? Maybe Karen Damen knows…

  1. Paul — I’ve been to England numerous times, but on business. Someday I’d like to go back, but not on business, and from there to Holland and Belgium.

The Netherlands, home of Philips Electronics, is a center of medical imaging technology development. Somebody that I know from Belgium (who got me started on my K3 kick), jokes that the Dutch are “a brilliant, dirty-minded people.”

I agree that the video doesn’t really prove anything, but O’Reilly offered no statistics at all, and calling the Dutch naive and saying Amsterdam is a cesspool of corruption begged for a response of some sort. I don’t doubt that drug use is more open in Holland than in America, but if I were there would I be any more tempted to try drugs than I am now? Not in the least, and I’m not tempted in the least.

  2. I’ve been to Amsterdam. It’s a beautiful place…but drugs ARE quite common. I question the validity of the statistics shown in the video. Showing smiling and waving families doesn’t prove their point. I could probably find smiling people in Chicago, for crying out loud. The Netherlands DOES have beautiful tulips though!

  3. Hello, Karen! Isn’t she adorable? It’s official, Bill O’Reilly is an even bigger d*******g than Rush Limbaugh. Why should we be concentrating about a nice, clean, law-abiding country like the Netherlands while here in the U.S. Obama is planning a beer-fest with Professor Gates and Officer Crowley? Who wants to move to Amsterdam? Me! Me!
