The Essential K3

I am happy to report that I am no longer the best place on the Net to see the Belgian girl group K3. This is.

At last, Studio 100 has given K3 a proper virtual venue. When Karen Damen’s channel on YouTube disappeared I figured that would be it for online videos, but how good it is to be wrong.

Over six months ago, I wrote sort of an open letter to Studio 100…

I’m the lone voice in America pushing K3. To increase interest in your own posted videos, get high quality versions of “Kusjesdag”, “Hart Verloren”, “Tele Romeo” and “Verliefd” in stereo on YouTube. I’d love to link to those. “I Love You, Baby” too, because it has some English. Think about it. Please. The songs are wonderful, but it’s not just the format that makes it all work, it’s Karen, Kristel and Kathleen, one of the best pop music trios I have ever enjoyed.

Later I added “A Trip to Mars” to that list. Here are direct links to all of those videos, available at last in high quality transfers that hold up to being displayed full screen, and they’re in stereo.

Great job, Studio 100. I don’t even mind that you’ve prevented embedding and downloading. Kudos and thanks.

  1. There is a god! I hope your letter played a part in this website, Dougie! Joaquim, I love that name! It just rolls of the tongue. I think I said that once already. K3 lives forever! (not the new version) YAY!

  2. I love the song Tele-Romeo, and I think K3’s video for it is wonderfully funny and fanciful. But the Wir3 video is routine and unoriginal. I agree about the teddy bears. They’re a pointless prop.

  3. The song as such is not that bad actually, I think it is one of their better ones. The translation is quite good as far as I can tell, I compared it with the original Dutch lyrics. They even took the French part without any modification of the text. But in my opinion, K3’s version is still better (I actually don’t know any French), but, after all, Belgium is a bilingual country.

Concerning the video, I don’t like that one very well, particularly the teddy bears. I don’t think they fit very well with that song. The original is better, like actually all of them. Another example would be to compare “Regenbogenbunt” with “Alle Kleuren” for example.

  4. Thanks, Joachim! I edited out the technical explanation. I know that trick, which gets around the problem in RealPlayer that only downloads the SWF and META files and not the MP4. Real’s browser plugin works beautifully for FLV files.

Because you are in Austria, I wonder what your opinion is on this Wir3 video:

  5. It gets even better: You can download the videos!

However, I don’t know how long this will stay like this, because they apparently have changed the URLs recently (but not the general scheme), previously it was just /player and /file respectively.

I don’t know if this is allowed to be published as such, but you are going to moderate comments anyway.
