Ringo’s starr still shines

Good old Ringo, the eldest Beatle, born three months before John, turns 70 this year. Back in ’08 Eric and I saw Ringo in Boston, and now he’s out plugging his new record — that I downloaded from Amazon last night, after seeing him on the Daily Show.

  1. It just occurred to me that a better intro by Jon Stewart would have been, “Ringo is your moment of Zen!”

“Y Not” really is very good. Ringo has a touching song in which he sings about his childhood chums, and there’s a duet with Paul.

Ringo played drums on a few songs in both of the All Starr band shows I’ve seen. If he toured in ’09 he didn’t come to Boston. Ringo couldn’t fill Fenway Park the way Paul did — twice — last summer, but his show sells out and I’m sure the crowd is as enthusiastic as any of his audiences.

  2. Toldya it looked like a rippin’ good album. Say, doesn’t Ringo get behind the drums anymore? Every time I’ve seen him perform live on TV, he’s out front!
