The Music of Lennon & McCartney

On November 1 and 2, 1965, the Beatles taped a TV programme in, and for, England called, The Music of Lennon & McCartney. Aired in December, and coinciding with the release of Rubber Soul, the show featured songs performed by the boys themselves, as well as some by special guests. Thanks to YouTube user nyrainbow, here’s pretty much the whole thing. Pay attention to Paul’s introduction of Henry Mancini in part 6, and to the way that Mancini replies.

  1. this is great, I want to be a dancer in that show! LOL! so-o-o funny the “She Loves You” flamenco version

  2. John and Paul had a lot of say in the show, and I think it was their choice to lip-sync. Why bother with multiple live takes when there was no audience present anyway?

  3. I wonder if Henry wanted Paul to call him “Hank,” so that’s why he wryly called him “John.” Of course, it’s cool knowing that Henry wrote the theme to the TV show “Mr. Lucky,” which starred our late mother’s dear friend “John Vivyan.

Pretty smooth show altogether, with great choreography and good pacing. I like the use of other-language singers and the dry British humour. I’d also forgotten what a hunk Bill J. Kramer was! My only quibble: that they didn’t let the Beatles perform LIVE!
