It’s a mad, Mad World

I watched Donnie Darko once, probably more than five years ago, and it didn’t hit the spot for me. Maybe I’m too old for the material. If it becomes available on Netflix Watch Instantly I’ll give it another try. But something that stuck out from it was Mad World, a remake by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews of the Tears for Fears song. This version was #1 in England and I hear it played every so often on BBC Radio 2.

  1. Netflix says I rented it Sept. ’06, which was when I started the blog, coincidentally. Tonight we watched “Black Swan”, and there are some similarities!

  2. I wonder if it was on my recommendation. Somehow, Donnie Darko hit the spot for me. Quirky, bizarre, incomprehensible, but it touched a nerve. In fact, went to see a play based on it at the ART a couple of years ago.

Anyway, never mind that, I love Mad World. Loved the original way back when, loved the Gary Jules version (I didn’t think I’d seen a video, but when I clicked the ‘Play’ button, I recognized it immediately — very cool video), and I also like the Alex Parks version.
