SamJay mentioned that he liked the cartoons of mine that I’d posted in the past. So here’s another one I did, from a failed comic strip submission.
This particular strip I remember being one of many exercises in teaching myself how to draw everyday objects, like the chair and lamp. It would take 1-2 hours to draw something like this in pencil, then ink it. Getting ideas was much tougher than drawing, which gets easier the more you do it. In terms of drawing ability I really admire the work of Chuck Ayers.
P.S. Marianne introduced me to Lileks, via his very funny book “The Diary of Regrettable Food.” I go to his blog when I need to dispel depression!
Since newspapers are a dying breed, they must post strips on-line now. Why not give it another try?
Hmm…. who do I know who’s funny and has a lot of ideas? Now let me think. Gosh, I just don’t know.
But seriously, I just don’t have the brain cells anymore to do anything other than what I’m doing now. Getting back into drawing is something I’ll have to save for retirement.
Ever consider taking up drawing again? You could partner with someone else for ideas.
I’m no expert but I’m impressed with your drawing talent. And coming from someone who has trouble drawing stick figures that really means something!
You’ll probably get a kick out of something Lileks had on his blog yesterday about cartooning. He calls it “The Distant City”.
