P.D. Eastman! He wrote and illustrated one of my most beloved childhood books: “Sam and the Firefly,” where the drawings always had an otherworldly quality to me. I once asked Dad what “Snafu” meant and he just grinned. I had to wait till I met Tom! He says “Go pound salt!” is another nasty Army saying his Dad brought back from the Army (he served in Papua, New Guinea). God, I love that Carl Stalling soundtrack!
