I Remember…

… Iron Butterfly, Alice Cooper and Black Sabbath. But do you remember BLOODROCK?? “We were flying low, and hit something in the air.”

There’s a really obvious splice in there from where the album version was cut down for the single. If four-and-a-half minutes of somebody being “self-aware” they’re dying isn’t enough for you, here is the classic “D.O.A.”

  1. Indeed. Seems like purchasing the rights to the film was a sound investment. I confess to not being a big fan of Metallica — what got me interested in the song was this cover version: https://youtu.be/xGc5in2F_Rg by *insanely* talented and creative Mike Dawes.

  2. 170,912,966 views?? The video is way more popular than the film ever was! I’ve never seen “Johnny Got Hit Gun,” but I read the book when the movie came out. Creepy stuff!

  3. Reminds me a bit of Metallica One (https://youtu.be/WM8bTdBs-cw) , though honestly I think One is a more meaningful song. Good wikipedia article about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_(Metallica_song)
There’s also a note in the article on “Johnny Got His Gun” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Got_His_Gun_(film)) about how Metallica “bought the rights to the film in order to keep showing the music video without having to pay additional royalty fees.” which I find deeply amusing/satisfying.
