My DJ roots are showing once again. Years before “Radar Love,” Golden Earring, from Holland, had the British Beat sound nailed in 1965.
Here’s the big hit that got a lot of play in the college cafeteria jukebox. With a somewhat changed lineup, the band certainly got their sound — and their look — right for the 70’s.
I didn’t know how far back Golden Earring went until a few years ago.
Had no idea that Radar Love was that old. I think that Twilight Zone must have been the first Golden Earring song I was aware of, so I associated them with that era (mid 80’s?). I certainly knew Radar Love, though — maybe it had a resurgence when Twilight Zone came out. Certainly wouldn’t have guessed that they were founded in 1961 — wow!
In other Golden Earring news, from their wikipedia entry, “The band announced on 5 February 2021 that it would stop playing after founding band member George Kooymans was diagnosed with ALS.”
