Teenage Pastland

I got “Who’s Next” for Christmas fifty — 50! — years ago.

More recently, Joe Pera had the same reaction to the album’s first song that I did, half a century ago.

And yes, there was a Sally who took my hand as we listened to the record together. Sally had brilliant red hair when I knew her, like Jenna Thiam a couple of posts ago.

  1. One last comment. Mom and I BOTH bought you “Who’s Next” for Christmas, but she gracefully returned hers and let me give you mine. I hope this memory is correct!

  2. And “The Song is Over” is in my top ten! But then, every song on the album is at least nearly perfect.

  3. This album is very high up on my “Desert Island Discs” list. I listened to “Pet Sounds” again recently and despite the sheer genius of “Wouldn’t It Be Nice?” and “God Only Knows,” how can it compare to this?
