Horn-y and Single

A recent installment of 88 Rewound had Denro and I exchanging messages in stunned disbelief. We both remembered a certain single, as heard on WRKO, where it reached #2 in early 1970. Like most boys, we were into the sound of the record and didn’t pay attention to the lyrics, but how did we fail to catch onto this tragic tale??

You will bear someone else’s fertile seed
Evil woman don’t play your games with me…
… Now I know just what you’re looking for
You want me to claim this child you bore
But I know that it was he, not me

Take it away Music Mike, who’s as wide in this video as the stereo separation of the recording!

Crow was a heavy metal band that was given a Blood, Sweat & Tears sound by the producer. I can both understand why professionally arranged horns were added, and why the group disliked them.
