Why is Ozempic so expensive in the United States?
A better question is, why is there so much need for Ozempic in the United States? We’ve gone from being a nation of smokers to a nation of overeaters.
For the vast majority of people, losing weight is free. In fact, it’s better than free. The greatly increased cost of groceries can be offset by eating much less.
Eat less and move more. That has always been the simple, albeit not easy, formula for losing weight and reducing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Ozempic and manufacturers of similar drugs are even pushing these potentially dangerous drugs on people of healthy weight, or even lower! I took a marketing quiz and put in my height of 5’3.5″ and 108 pounds. I expected a notice saying I was too thin and it would be dangerous to use Ozempic. Instead I got a printable coupon!
On the other end of the spectrum, obese children like Tom’s 10-year-old nephew aren’t even questioned about their weight by their pediatricians. And my own GP is obese! Hey! Leslie had that Barbie ensemble. I remember the tiny book!
