My Mileage May Vary

I bought my 2017 Camry XLE in March of that year, a few weeks before retiring. Since then, I’ve averaged 4,000 miles/year of driving. For comparison, during my years of participating in the Boston Marathon, I averaged 2,000 miles/year of running!*

Until this year, I’d hit the next 4,000-mile mark on the odometer in March or April. This time, I’m a couple of months ahead, mostly due to more frequent drives into Boston than in the past.

After quitting beer and wine a few years ago**, at the suggestion of Bismo I began drinking Athletic Brewing Co.’s non-alcohol beer. Today, Bismo and I attended a Dry January tasting event at a large liquor store in the area.

Athletic was there. I explained to the representative that I enjoyed their products, and I said thanks for Athletic’s financial support of an organization promoting participation in marathons. In return, she gave me this Athletic Brewing Co. glass. Thanks, Athletic!

* Endurance running was the cause of my persistent afib, according to the electro physiologist who performed the pulsed field ablation that stopped the afib.
** One reason why, was my concern about the cancer and afib warnings associated with alcohol. A year later? Diagnosed with cancer and afib!
