The Return of… China Flu!

Last weekend I attended two weddings. (I’ve taken up wedding crashing in retirement.) Fortunately, there were no funerals.

I must have caught something at one of those events, because last night I started to feel sick. It seemed like an ordinary, mild cold. I wore a mask this morning to a physical therapy appointment for my knee.

When the PT guy saw me he also wore a mask. Good thing he did.

I was doing all right until this afternoon, when I suddenly felt like some of RFK Jr.’s road kill. The thermometer said 100.7.

Darn. A Covid test kit that expired two years ago tested positive. Double darn.

A visit to urgent care confirmed I have Covid. My fever had risen to 101.2. This is an exact replay of what happened five years ago. I was vaccinated for Covid back then, and six weeks later I caught Covid at a social event. If the vaccine is reducing the severity of the illness, it feels no more effective now than it did in 2021.

Covid is now an endemic disease, like the flu. I also had a flu shot, by the way. Anyway, I’m out of circulation until this clears out of my system. Until then, I’ll look for ways to make life worth living.
