Well, I sure don’t like this very much. In a surprise announcement on Facebook, one of my favorite radio guys, Steve LeVeille, who has the overnight shift on WBZ in Boston, is retiring at the end of the week.
Assuming this is entirely Steve’s decision, it comes only weeks after his friend Carl Beane, the Voice of Fenway Park, died of a heart attack while driving. Here’s a clip with Steve talking about Carl.

Steve sure sounds happy! The main points I heard last night were:
– This is entirely his decision.
– He’s been planning it for some time.
– The death of Carl Beane was the final push.
– His financial planner says it’s do-able.
– He and his wife will live in Maine year-round.
– His wife wants to continue working.
I may call in tonight or tomorrow. I started listening to Steve in late ’99 when I was recovering from eye surgeries.
I am a long time listener from New Baltimore, Mich and soooo enjoy your nighttime program. I will really miss you; your topics; life with Max and his antics and of course your lovely wife Diane.
There have been many good replacements during your absence but Morgan is tops! ! !
From WBZ’s official statement it sure sounds like it’s what Steve wants to do.

I suspect some cause and effect. He’d rather enjoy retirement–which his friend Carl Beane didn’t get to.
I’ll be listening tonight for at least the first hour to hear what Steve says.
Hate to see you go you’re like family! ( Diane and of course Max)
You need to do what’s right for you
Good luck you will be missed
