Denro, who should be on his way back from a comic book convention in New York, sent me a promo for a new Broadway musical that has both of us asking, “what is this?” Just when you would be expecting to see Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, or Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, we get Spider-Man??
With a score by Bono, and direction by Julie Taymor, the production certainly has credentials, but the fanboy in me can’t help but wonder if they drew some inspiration from Spider-Man’s 1972 Rockomic…!
Yay! An excuse to go take the entire Mank clan to NYC for Christmas! On Sunday, my stepson and wife just threw our three-year-old grandson a Spiderman-themed birthday party. EVERYTHING had to be Spidey, or was it summarily dismissed! Well, he’s a good boy and was polite about every gift that was not, but we all had to wear cardboard Spidey masks for most of the party! If you took it off, he head right over and put it back on. Yes, he has the comic books.
Too bad this wasn’t going on the same weekend YOU were in NYC, Dougie!
