Mutts to You, Two!

Back on March 24 I said that Joe Sinnott would be returning to the Sunday funnies one more time inking the MUTTS comic strip, and today is it! Fantastic Four fans will get the joke about the cocoon.

I spent all day yesterday with Joe at the Empire State Comic Con in Albany. Joe’s doing great, and he’s as clever and fesity as ever.

Cartoony Looney – 15

This was another of my Comics Buyer’s Guide submissions, and it’s a good example of my ambition exceeding my artistic ability. I was trying hard to get back into the drawing groove, and it shows.

It’s not bad through panel 4, but then the drawing falls apart. In the last panel the mom captures the relaxed and loose feeling I was trying for, and I liked the idea of implying their son was born during a comic book convention.

Cartoony Looney – 13

Not quite ready to begin a run of Jeanie Beanie comic strips, but the taxes are done. I found another one of my newspaper cartoons, drawn in a faux-underground style.

It includes a little dig at the 1980 Republican National Convention, but I don’t remember if the editor let it go through to print. This was drawn almost 40 years ago, and it still bugs me that I didn’t have enough time before deadline to add a couple more faces to that white space!
