My vote for the most important record heard on Sixties radio wasn’t by the Beatles. The abbreviated version of ‘Light My Fire’ was a hit on AM, and the full album version broke on through to usher in the age of Underground Radio on FM.

Hendrix came to Psychedelic music as a Blues guitarist, as did many British artists. Separate from Hendrix, the genre in America evolved from Garage, with its inspiration being not the Blues, but Surf. Dick Dale was a leading — many say THE leading — practitioner of Surf Guitar and, like Hendrix, he was left-handed.

The final time I saw Brian was with Denro at the Beacon Theatre in NYC, on September 26, 2019.
