Shameless, Thy Name Is Shatner

OK, OKLAHOMA gave you enough happiness. Now it’s time to be weirded out.

For decades, in hushed whispers at Star Trek conventions there were rumors uttered of something so utterly bizarre, so totally strange, that few believed its existence. For it was too offbeat, even for William Shatner, who has had so much to live down in his life — embarrassments, gaffs, bad toupees, awful attempts at singing matched only by Leonard Nimoy, the suspicious drowning of a wife… and more.

And yet … and yet … there was something so undeniably irresistible about it. A movie. A horror movie that Shatner made before Trek. A movie spoken entirely in Esperanto. A movie called Incubus!

I’d forgotten all about Incubus long ago, so thanks go to my friend Tom for pointing out that it’s been released on DVD.

More Making of Snow White

Hey, this is a coincidence. Yesterday, I mentioned an old article about the making of Disney’s Snow White and Seven Dwarfs [link here], and today Mark Evanier pointed out a video on YouTube with a vintage short subject about the same thing [link here].

Not trusting YouTube to keep anything Disney-related online, I’ll post the video here.

Thou Shall Separate Church And State

Through Netflix my wife Carol and I have watched an interesting collection of recent documentaries, a couple of which I’ve highlighted previously.

All of these films are recommended, but I would say that Jesus Camp is the most disturbing. I’ve selected two brief scenes from the film and spliced them together. I’ll let these three minutes speak for themselves, while making the assumption you know what Ted Haggard was forced to admit shortly before the November elections.
