Producer/writer Mark Evanier has announced the release of his upcoming book Kirby: King of Comics, a biography of comic book artist Jack Kirby. Jack created or co-created the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Captain America, and many other characters. The book should be out before the end of the year.

More good news is that Evanier will once again be writing, producing and voice directing a series of Garfield the Cat cartoons. And he’s losing lots of weight, thanks to successful gastric bypass surgery. The video above about Jack Kirby shows Evanier before the surgery. With so much going on in his life, Mark had a lot to lose by not losing!

  1. Here’s a question for you: to what extent did the American comic book artists like Jack Kirby influence the Japanese anime artists? Also, when did anime really begin? Don’t everybody answer at once! I bet even Eric can weigh in on that. (bad pun considering Evanier’s recent surgery, good luck to him on that, considering some of them don’t take, and have to be redone, and you end up regaining it anyway, which is happening to Al Roker). The best, and only true weigh, uh, way to lose weight is to deal with the issues of why you are overeating, clean up your environment of all unhealthy foods, and then, exercise till you break a sweat for at least an hour a day.

Still, I like this this guy. He’s so freakin’ intelligent!
